Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Malaysia’s national flower is as diverse as the Malaysian human population

This video discusses the hybrid nature of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and describes its most likely ancestors, as well as the native Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. While the main thrust of the video is on Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, the video also compares the hybridization process occurring among the hibiscus to the interpopulation crosses occurring among humans which lead to the evolution of species. A brief explanation of hybrid vigor or heterosis and inbreeding depression is provided.
