Schmeichelkätzchen, Polka Mazurka, Op. 226 - Eduard Strauss

"Flatterer Kitten". Eduard introduced the Viennese public to his charming polka-mazurka Schmeichelkätzchen on 2 March 1884 in the Musikverein at the Strauss brothers’ annual ‘Carnival Revue’. Such was the fecundity of his musical inspiration that, together with two more works from his pen, the waltz Lustige G’schichten and the quick polka Mit Vergnügen, Schmeichelkätzchen was on this occasion receiving its world premiere performance. The new polka-mazurka evidently proved popular with the audience, for Eduard repeated it at his Sunday afternoon concerts in the Musikverein on 9 March, 16 March, 30 March and at the final concert of the season on 6 April.
