13th of June 1799: The Parthenopean Republic is destroyed and the Kingdom of Naples is restored. In 1799, the French Republic deposed the King of Naples and established yet another "Sister Republic" (in reality a satellite state) in Naples. This republic was called the Parthenopean Republic, and it proved to be unpopular. Cardinal Fabrizio Ruffo created Sanfedism, a Catholic movement in the Neapolitan peasantry, which called for the restoration of the Neapolitan monarchy. The Sanfedists rose up and with British and Sicilian support were able to restore the Kingdom. This song was the Sanfedist parody of "La Carmagnole", a song very popular in revolutionary France.
