If your string trimmer is showing any of these symptoms; replacing the clutch drum could solve your problem: 1) Trimmer head not rotating under throttle 2) Trimmer head stops when under load (when the line contacts the lawn, weeds, etc.) 3) Drive shaft not engaging 4) Clutch not engaging drum 5) Clutch drum (lining) is stripped (engine/throttle works fine; but drive shaft does not spin). 6) Loss of torque during use Tools used for this repair/replacement: 1) Receptacle for draining fuel 2) Phillip’s screwdriver 3) Ratchet and socket set 4) Torx wrenches 5) Starter rope (or similar object) for binding engine 6) Spark plug wrench or socket 7) Adjustable wrench [ VIDEO TRANSCRIPT ] Common issues of the clutch drum, is wear to the mounting location where the flexible shaft mounts to the clutch drum. The square corners will get rounded off. Also, wear to the inside of the clutch drum. This is where the clutch itself expands out and makes contact with the drum.
