The original Microsoft Xbox offered two options for optimum video quality, RGB SCART and YPbPr Component. On NTSC consoles, the component cables offered 480p, 780p and 1080i resolutions on compatible games. But on PAL consoles, these enhanced and HD resolutions were disabled. The cables will work on a PAL console, but without modifying the console they will only output 576i at best. There has been a lot of conflicting statements online regarding the quality of the Xbox&RGB. Some say the quality is great, but others say it&really bad. It doesn&help matters that at the time of my uploading this video there are very few recordings of the Xbox in RGB, and all the uploads I&found show dark and blurred imagery. In fact, it feels dumb to say it now, but because of said videos I was scared off from using RGB SCART on the Xbox for the longest time! Is the RGB on Xbox truly bad? Were they just using bad quality cables? Well, I&happy to confirm that the RGB on the Xbox is excellent quality. As a public service, here is a capture test comparing both a direct component capture using official Microsoft cables deinterlaced to 576p and an RGB SCART signal upscaled to 1080p over HDMI. There are two versions of the official Xbox component cables, or as Microsoft called them, the Xbox High Definition AV Pack.
