This video is intended for nurses, lab technicians and other clinical staff, and provides simple step-by-step instructions for using Copan&FecalSwab™ for stool sample collection. FecalSwab™ provides a more simple and streamlined alternative to traditional bulky, messy collection systems. For best results, follow steps outlined in this video and briefly summarized here: • After patient has obtained stool specimen, collect a small amount of stool by inserting the tip of the flocked swab into the sample. • Warning: Do not try to collect and transfer an excessive amount of fecal sample into tube. Only the swab tip only needs to be coated with sample. • Transfer the swab into the FecalSwab™ tube confirm that maximum filling line is not exceeded. • Mash and mix the stool specimen against the side of the tube to evenly disperse specimen. • Holding near the end of the shaft, bend the swab at a 180 degrees angle to break it off at the marked breakpoint. • Shake the vial until the sample appears homogeneous. • Label and send specimen to testing lab following your SOP’s. FecalSwab™ streamlines fecal sample collection, transport and processing by converting solid or semi-solid specimens into liquid phase in standardized tubes allowing for easier testing in the Microbiology laboratory, and ultimately better patient care.
