Since 1985, actor, director and theater arts teacher, John Argue, has been conducting movement and voice classes for people with Parkinson’s disease. His approach reflects his extensive training in yoga, tai-chi and meditation, as well as techniques developed as an actor (breathing, facial and physical exercises). His exercises can improve flexibility, strength, balance and coordination, help prevent falls, improve facial expressiveness and improve intelligibility of speech. The techniques are part of an exercise program established and published in his book entitled Parkinson’s Disease & The Art of Moving (New Harbinger Publications, January 2000) and in his Video Companion: Parkinson’s Disease & the Art of Moving, 2004. Advice for caregivers can be found on his DVD Parkinson’s Disease & Activities of Daily Living, 2008.
