This painting video clip brings you out into my garden as I get ready to set up to paint a landscape of beautiful yellow iris! The garden is on it&last stretch right now with the flowers starting to fade and I didn&want to miss the opportunity to capture them - especially on such a beautiful day. I am using oil paints on a piece of 9" x 12" watercolor paper as I am out of smaller canvases right now. I taped it to a piece of cardboard and just set it up on my easel. Plein Air Painting: What is it? It&painting out doors and comes from a French expression "en plein-air" meaning painting "in the open air". Many of the Impressionists painted landscapes this way and loved capturing a response to the changing light. If you are a nature lover, plein-painting or painting outdoors is something worth trying. Starting in your back yard or even capturing something looking through a window can work. It&certainly something that can be engaged in while practicing social distancing. As far as things I learn with this practice - it&helped me work quicker and learn how to simplify as my tendency has often been to get caught up in the details. This painting is still in the works and I will post it on my Instagram over the next days once it&done . You can find me there INSTAGRAM - @martzloff.c Enjoy the video! Cathy
