TARANTELLA (1st solo - John Clifford)

Not so funny story about this TV taping. Originally Villella was supposed to do this when it was scheduled in Canada (Montreal I think) and the company was on a lay-off period. I had not danced Tarantella at this point in the company but had done it on many concerts with Gelsey Kirkland, Sara Leland, and others. Villella was injured right before this filming (which I didn&know about because I was very sick with the Flu and had a temperature of 104...and was staying with a friend who was taking care of me). When I finally went back home after being gone 5 days I found a stack of telegrams from the company management waiting for me. This was in the days before cel phones. It seemed Mr. B needed me to fly up the next day to dance this in place of Villella. I hadn&been out of bed in 5 days and was very weak...but I had to go. The show MUST go on! When I got there I found out that Tarantella was to be filmed first the very next day...at 9:00AM! Yikes!!! I told Mr. B. I had zero strength, but he said, "Just do it once dear." So I did. HOWEVER...right before the end the film broke and I was obliged to do the whole thing again immediately. I told Mr. B I couldn&My legs were giving out and my lungs were on fire. Tarantella is hard enough on a healthy day. He told me to mark the beginning up to where the film broke (right before the brise voles) and then try and do the end full-out. That&what I did.
