The white-stone Dome Cathedral, dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary, is one of the oldest churches in Tallinn, consecrated in 1240. And although the cathedral itself has been rebuilt several times over the centuries, many relics of that time have been preserved in its interior, for example, burials of the 13th century, as well as various noble coats of arms and epitaphs. Among the later burials here you can find the graves of Admiral Samuel Greig and the legendary navigator Ivan Fedorovich Kruzenshtern. An observation deck is open for visitors in the tower with a beautiful view of the streets of Strictly Tallinn. The current tower of the cathedral belongs to the Baroque era, and replaces the old tower, destroyed during fire in 1684. An observation deck with a beautiful view of the streets of Strictly Tallinn is open for visitors in the tower. According to historical chronicles, the building of the Dome Cathedral was built in 1229. To this day, only the altar part has survived from it. However, there is no complete certainty that the named date of the construction of the church is accurate. There are discrepancies in the available sources, and some historians claim that a wooden charitable institution on Vyshgorod stood already in 1219. In 1240, the consecration of the church took place. Then it was considered the cathedral church of Northern Estonia. By that time it was already a stone building built to last for centuries. ----------------------------------- Домский собор в...
