The week of February 17th-23rd, my mom and I took a vacation to California on Amtrak&California Zephyr, and we had two nights and a day in the San Francisco area. Being a railfan, I knew I couldn&be this close without briefly visiting Jack London Square in Oakland, and I saw four passenger trains while we were there. The Square is a "hot spot" for railfans because it features "street-running" - train tracks that run right down a street, a fairly rare occurrence here in the US but quite interesting to see in person. With many grade crossings, the Amtrak station nearby, and lots of interesting buildings, there&a lot to photograph here. At 5:22 PM, I filmed the westbound Capitol Corridor train as it approached the station and passed through the Square. The usual power for these trains are the Amtrak California F59PHI&but as luck would have it, this train was powered by P40 one of Amtrak&Phase III "Heritage" units! This one led the museum train that toured the country in 2011, and now has regular assignments around the Amtrak system. At this time, the engine was on the Capitol Corridor rotations, and I actually ended up seeing it again 4 different times while we were in California. Enjoy!
