In this, the third video in my series on how colour influences our lives, I’ll be discussing the powerful impact it has on the foods we buy and most enjoy eating. It’s reasonable to imagine that our main considerations are taste and texture when buying and eating food. That the colour of that food, except in special circumstances, would be a matter of little or no importance. Nothing could be further from the truth. We expect that, for example, green vegetables to be green, meat red and fish a silvery white. That tomatoes and strawberries will also be red, potatoes brown and peppers yellow, green or red. When they are presented in unexpected colour s, for example fish red or yellow, we might well hesitate to eat them. Even if they are fresh and taste no different. Just how much the colour of what we eat affects the way we feel about eating is well illustrated by the world’s strangest dinner party. One whose story I recount in this video.
