How to make a gearbox in LEGO technic (5 Speed+Reverse)

The first time I made a LEGO technic gearbox, I could not figure out how it worked. So I decided to create this step by step guide to a simple straight forward 5 speed (+ reverse) transmission for LEGO cars so I can share with everybody what I have learned so far, and perhaps I can learn something myself. Note: obviously this design is mostly for illustration purposes: power conservation is not optimized (fair amount of gears), the reverse gear is too fast, not the most compact, etc. #rccar
