Technivorm Moccamaster Cup-One Review

Note regarding SCAA Golden Cup certification: I&seen a few reviews and ads for this coffee maker that mention that it is SCAA certified. Even the Technivorm website shows an icon for SCAA, but no information is given regarding the SCAA Golden Cup certification. If you¬ aware, an SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) certified coffee maker has been independently tested by the SCAA to verify that it can brew coffee in accordance with the very strict "Golden Cup" standards. I contacted Technivorm and they confirmed that there is NOT an SCAA certification for the Cup-One brewer. It is certified, however, by the ECBC (European Coffee Brewing Center). The ECBC and the SCAA have agreed on the same testing protocols and certification standards (see link below). This means that the Cup-One does meet the exact same test standards as the SCAA, but has only been submitted to the ECBC for certification. It is very expensive to submit a coffee maker for certification, so my guess is that Technivorm did not feel it was worthwhile to submit to SCAA just for the US market. Either way, this brewer has been tested and certified to brew coffee in accordance with the ideal parameters for water temperature, exposure time, and even extraction.
