Pharrell Williams - Happy - Drum Cover by Troy Wright

Troy Wright from the Gold Coast, Australia. This may be classed more as a &than a &as I¬ exactly playing the entire piece note for note. I&just sitting on the groove, getting a feel for the song and embellishing where appropriate whilst chopping out a bit and having some fun. This was also a last minute decision for me to film and record properly for YouTube after getting addicted to this play through. &has a great up tempo groove that for me got more fun to play the more I jammed it out. There are a couple of sections in this song that I wanted to have the drums flare a bit more to add contrast and dynamics to the piece overall. The first section is at 1:40 where the tom beat that I&playing (although nowhere near the original) was literally what came out on my first run, (which to some may be a little busy), but stuck and felt right to me. The second section at 2:55 I treated as a &out&sort of drum solo section where I kept it fresh and on the spot. This was the 3rd and last take I did and each play through was different from the last. Although there were fills and other things I preferred from the first 2 takes, this play through as a whole felt better (and had less mistakes haha) I know I&been heading in a different direction with my YouTube covers lately (away from the heavier material) but right now I&honestly having a lot more fun and getting way more excited with this type of drumming. I don&know what will be next but I just want to keep it fresh and fun this...
