Neuralink Corp., the brain-computer interface company founded by Elon Musk, has successfully implanted its device in a third human patient. Musk announced the milestone during an event in Las Vegas, streamed on his social media platform, X, stating, "We’ve got now three humans with Neuralinks implanted, and they’re all working well." The company plans to implant the device in 20 to 30 more patients by 2025 as part of its ongoing mission to explore cutting-edge solutions for neurological conditions. Neuralink, alongside other startups in the field, is developing brain implants aimed at treating disorders such as paralysis and ALS. These experimental procedures typically involve placing electrodes directly in brain tissue, requiring invasive surgery. Neuralink&initial human trial began a year ago with the implantation of its device in patient Noland Arbaugh. The company has since expanded its studies with two trials registered under the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The first, known as the Prime Study, involves up to five paralyzed patients who use the Neuralink device to control external devices like computers and smartphones with their thoughts. The second trial, Convoy, focuses on three patients who can operate assistive technologies, including robotic arms, via the brain-computer interface.
