Jerusalem Old City Walking Tour Via Dolorosa Lions Gate to Damascus Gate Wheelchair Accessible

I am David Ha'ivri Israel Tour Guide. In this tour we will start off outside the Lions Gate which is on the eastern side of the Ottoman walls of the old city of Jerusalem that were built in the 16th century by the Ottoman ruler Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. The Lion’s Gate is also the gate the IDF Israel Defense Force Paratroopers entered the Old City walls under the command of General Motta Gur commander of the Tzanachanim in Israel’s Six Day War when they liberated East Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria AKA the West Bank. To the south of us is the entrance to the Islamic cemetery which is on the eastern side of the ottoman walls and to the east of the Temple Mount and the Golden Gate. Outside of the Lions Gate we can see a large map of the old city of Jerusalem that was placed here for tourists by the Jerusalem municipality and the Israel Ministry of Tourism. We will walk through the Muslim Quarter on the eastern and northern side of Jerusalem’s Old City to the north of the Temple Mount. Notice here like at the New Gate of the Old City, these barriers that says authorized vehicles only only residents and service providers are allowed past this barrier next to the private parking area the belongs to the Muslim Waqf Islamic Trust. We will pass by a park and waiting area for Christian groups who come to walk along the Via Dolorosa and you can see signs noting all of the 14 stations of the Via Dolorosa the way of the suffering of Jesus.
