Letter K Song

This letter K song is one of a series of guruparents phonics songs. The song introduces the letter sound by featuring 12 words beginning with the letter k sound, including some sight words. Kids songs are a good way for a child to start to learn to read -- and this one is set to a catchy rap tune, features lots of colorful pictures and has a simple rhyming pattern. It does present some problems for young children learning to write though -- they sometimes are unsure whether a word is spelled with a &or a 'c'. The reason that the words are spelled this way is that they are believed to have once been pronounced with a &sound at the beginning. For example, it is thought that in Old English &was pronounced as &Over time, the pronunciation changed to the current one, but as is often the case in English the spelling did not change -- hence the silent k!
