Starlet Scandal
This is “Bolero,” Shostakovich style. Here is a clip of the entire “invasion theme,” a 22-bar ostinato repeated 12 times, building and becoming increasingly oppressive with each repetition. Read up on the back story of this truly remarkable Symphony in the program notes Disclaimer: In anticipation of some folks protesting this illicit copy of the performance, I can only say that I&posting this video and others in order to share the world&best orchestral playing with those who either can&afford to attend or cannot otherwise reach Philadelphia to hear it. The Philadelphia Orchestra is one of the world’s finest orchestras, and it regularly fails to release recordings of its performances. For example, its legendary principal clarinetist, Ricardo Morales, has played several concertos with the orchestra over the last decade, none of which have been released to the public besides ::maybe:: a radio broadcast here and there. Recordings of the inaugural "Commissions Weekend" from a few years ago, which featured their principal flute, bassoon, and harp, have STILL not been released. If the orchestra decides to get its act together and release professional recordings of any concerts I post, I&be happy to promptly take the videos down.
