Quick instructions on removing a 3.0 cylinder head on a mercruiser, volvo or OMC 120 140 or 3.0engine. This is the new style 2 bolt exhaust, the older ones have 4 bolts and look a little different but the method is the same. Disconnect battery Drain block water (stops water falling into piston holes) Disconnect fuel line at carb and choke wires Remove throttle cable from carb (on some old models its easier to remove the throttle bracket from manifold) Disconnect water hoses and water send connectors Drop the shift plate Remove exhaust elbow & exhaust rubber tube Remove nuts/bolts on exhaust manifold and pull it off - watch out you dont stress/break wires at bottom of manifold - lay it down out of the way Remove head bolts and pull pushrods Pry head loose and remove. Cover engine and lightly oil cylinder walls. Inspect manifold for excessive corrosion around water ports - water can trickle past a bad seal and cause rear cylinder(s) to seize valves and mox water into oil as in this case.
