Hoya cv. Kaimuki is a cultivar developed by Michael Miyashiro of Hawaii that combines H. MacGillivray and H. archboldiana. I received this plant in the summer of 2012. It arrived with rotted roots so I needed to take a cutting and start the plant over from scratch. It quickly rooted and I was able to flower it nine months later in the spring of 2013. I believe that most of my luck with the Macgillivray/archboldiana complex stems from giving the plant continuous 12 hour days, which are only achieved around here by using grow lights. This plant has huge bloom, which measures 3 inches across from point to point, and they are very long-lasting – up to two weeks I also find that this complex can have a huge variation in flower color depending on how it is grown. I would not be surprised if the next time I flower this plant it would bloom all red. #hoya
