On the second show, they were joined by Sanskrit scholar Juan Mascaro, who sent Harrison a copy of his book Lamps of Fire. Mascaro highlighted a passage that said knowledge begins by understanding oneself, and suggested that Harrison set the text to music. Harrison took his advice and began composing “The Inner Light.” The music developed from a series of Indian ragas he wrote while scoring music for the 1968 film Wonderwall, and was recorded with musicians in Bombay, India. The song was finished at Abbey Road on February 8, 1968, with vocals from Lennon and McCartney.
