"How High the Moon" was recorded by Les Paul and Mary Ford in Les Paul’s home studio on January 4, 1951. The single was released on March 26, 1951 on Capitol Records [Catalog on 10” 78 RPM shellac and 7” 45 RPM vinyl. It rose quickly to and spent 9 weeks at that top-spot. It was released on the 10” LP: “The Hit Makers!” [H-416] in 1953. Enjoy my DES [Digitally Extracted STEREO] conversion of this historic recording that shaped Rock and Roll. "How High the Moon" is a jazz standard with lyrics by Nancy Hamilton and music by Morgan Lewis. It was first featured in the 1940 Broadway revue Two for the Show, where it was sung by Alfred Drake and Frances Comstock. In Two for the Show, this was a rare serious moment in an otherwise humorous revue. Les Paul and Mary Ford were a popular 1950s husband-and-wife musical duo who performed and recorded during 1945–1963. They both sang and played guitars. They were music superstars during the first half of the 1950s, putting out 28 hits for Capitol Records between 1950 and 1957, including "Tiger Rag", "Vaya con Dios" (11 weeks at "Mockin&Bird Hill" (top 10), "How High the Moon" (9 weeks at "Bye Bye Blues" and "The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise". About the original mono recording: The source track is from the 1991 digital mastering of the Capitol CD: “Les Paul with Mary Ford - The Best of The Capitol Masters”.
