When fixing up an old Stihl MS 250 C-BE a few days ago, I decided to modify the muffler. I also added a spark arrestor screen since this saw never had one to begin with. This video shows all of this plus a test run so you get to hear the muffler in action! (It sounds angry.) This video does not really help you if you are modding a newer MS 250 saw. The muffler on the later versions are different and they also have a spark arrestor screen. (Like most saws today have.) There is no talking in this upload. The video itself shows how the muffler was modified. Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:10 Disassemble the muffler (step 1) 0:48 Modify the muffler (step 2) 2:47 Reinstall the muffler (step 3) 3:02 Muffler test 3:30 Result 3:40 Comparison with before mod 4:02 Outro NOTE: The highly improvised spark arrestor screen was made from a kitchen sieve and some scrap lying in the garage. It is a temporary fix! To make a permanent screen I will have to weld something else together in the near future. UPDATES: 2. However, I suspect the opening was too big here. Because the idle seemed somewhat unstable after this. The engine noise was also enough to wake the dead. So I decided to reduce it (from 1 inch) down to 1/2 inch, using a regular pipe bushing. I have already used the saw a couple of times felling trees after this, it seems okay again now. (But still very noisy.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have any questions, please...
