In the majority of modern rock tunnels the deformation and hence the stability of the tunnel is controlled by a combination of reinforcement and/or support systems eventually. The reinforcement consists of rockbolts or cables which modify the properties of the rock mass in much the same way as reinforcement does in concrete. In this video the modelling of a NATM tunnel is soft rock is shown in PLAXIS 3D, to illustrate the use of embedded beams rows for the definition of the rock bolts for relatively complex tunnel geometries involving a multiple arcs extrusion tunnel surface and a connecting cylindrical gallery"
