The "National Anthem of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania" (Arabic: نشيد وطني موريتاني, Nashid Wataniin Muritaniin, lit. &Chant of Mauritania[n]"&is Mauritania&former national anthem. Its lyrics are taken from a poem written in the late 18th century by Baba Ould Cheikh. The melody was arranged by Tolia Nikiprowetzky. The anthem was adopted upon independence from France in 1960. It was considered almost impossible to sing.
