A performance of Isaac Albeniz&piano piece &written in 1886 and more recently arranged for classical guitar. In 1912 this piece was added to a set of several other works for piano, under the title "Suite Española". The original pieces in the set, Granada, Cataluña, Sevilla and Cuba, were grouped together in 1887, in honour of the Queen of Spain. The music works exceptionally well when transcribed for the classical guitar, as if it was always meant to be. The work is performed in this video by New Zealand classical guitarist, Bruce Paine, and is included in his CD "Guitar @ Museum". Please note: Classical guitar aficionados and musicologists will recognise this performance as being ‘Cadiz’ by pianist and composer Isaac Albeniz as arranged by the master classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco but with a few simplifications. Some scales or melodic lines originally in two voices were replaced by single voices. Some may consider such changes to be sacrilege though it is not intended to be underhanded. The performer was advised that they do not affect the musical integrity of the piece. The piece was originally written for solo piano and there are rarely instances where perfect solutions are possible when making solo guitar arrangements of piano music.
