Nominated for the Turner Prize in 2000, Brown is known for appropriating images and artistic strategies from the Renaissance into the 20th century. After studying at Norwich School of Art and Bath College of Higher Education, Brown earned an MFA from Goldsmiths College London. He is described as a Mannerist painter, surprising the public with grotesque and exaggerated forms. Drawing inspiration from a variety of sources ranging from Rembrandt van Rijn to Salvador Dalí to Frank Auerbach, Brown&unique iconography is accompanied by virtuoso artistic technique.
