after it was all done, I had realized that the thinner portion on the end was unnecessary and it would have been far easier to use the same m10 x 1.50 bolt, but the full 40 MM length and chamfer the end. the smaller surface area of the 1/4 inch bolt i drilled and tapped into the m10 was a waste of time, but looking at the tool it seemed necessary before I had it apart. alas live and learn my friends.
