Guam- Even though the proposed boundaries for the proposed Marine National Monument covers only the waters surrounding three of the northern most islands of the commonwealth, the Guam Fishermen&Cooperative doesn&believe the conservation area will be limited to that area. Co-op President Manny Duenas says he was told by federal officials that the preserve would cover the deepest-darkest point of the Marianas trench and he says that is right off Guam. Ultimately, it will be up to the White House to decide what area is covered and what restrictions will apply. For that reason, Duenas says he does not trust the maps that show Guam&waters will not be affected. Duenas has prepared a letter addressed to President George Bush opposing the national monument plan. He also has delivered over 1,000 letters from people against the plan to Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo&office.
