4K CABVIEW: The New Ulriken Tunnel

On December 13th 2020 BaneNor opened the new Ulriken Tunnel between Bergen and Arna. This marks a new era with it being the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) drilled railway tunnel in Norway in operation to day. The track in the TBM part of the tunnel is "mounted straight into the tunnel floor". You can really hear the difference between the part that has normal ballast and the one with the solid track. The maximum speed in the tunnel is 160KM/h (100MPH). In the tunnel itself we also now have a new block post called Skare. By installing this block post the trains can now run closer to each other in the tunnel. As well as the new "passing loop" called Arna Vest makes everything so much for flexible. It&going to get even better when the whole project is complete. The old tunnel will be closed for upgrades the next two years to get it up to par with the new standards, new track foundations, installing smoke fans and other technical equipment. When completed the "bottle neck" will finally be lifted and we can run more trains and delayed trains will not affect the other trains the same way anymore.
