For the longest time I thought this bass line was performed on a fretless purely because of the scene in the music video/A Year and a Half in the Life in which Jason is playing the song on a fretless stingray bass. However, the bass used sounds like a Spector with a high end cut that is played less aggressively with fingers up and until the outro when a pick is used.
