On Sunday, July 21, a hitherto unseen waterfowl could be observed on the lower pond of the Samara Botanical Garden. A powerful large bird continuously cut circles around the entire water area of the pond, and under water. After surfacing and swimming two to three meters, she disappeared again and appeared on the surface already ten to fifteen meters from the diving site. The public walking along the pond embankment pointed at these dives with their fingers and asked each other who it could be? Judging by Internet sources, it was a stray cormorant, one of those that are intensively inhabiting the Samara region now, and which will soon be here like Vorobyov. Cormorants feed on fish, and in large quantities, in kilograms, and from this we can conclude that there are still fish in this pond of ours. After diving and, apparently, having had enough, the cormorant finally got out on a snag and appeared in front of the public in all its glory. The permanent inhabitants of the pond, young reed hens and mallard ducks, were not particularly impressed by its menacing appearance with a predatory curved beak. They continued to quietly swarm in the mud near the cormorant, which was hanging out to dry its wings. After drying, the cormorant began to clean the feathers with its beak, as all other waterfowl usually do. After that, he took up throat singing.
