[DROP INFO BOX FOR LYRICS] Uploaded by special request for Mama Dee. The beautiful Miriam Makeba and South Africa&first Empress of song who was aptly named "Mama Africa". Ms Makeba also played a significant role in the civil rights movement, and the anti-apartheid movement - a role which resulted in a 30 yr exile from her homeland, and saw her immediately dropped by her record company RCA and her concerts cancelled. This particular song "Jikele Maweni" (The Retreat Song) was originally recorded around the late 1950s, and was first published by RCA in 1960. The song tells the tale of Xhosa warrior men part-taking in the art of stick fighting.
