Such a smooth bassgroove to play! And which bassplayer doesn’t recognize the bassolo!! The ‘secret’ of the groove in this song is playing the groove with ease; playing some notes with accent (staccato/short); playing quarter triplets (especially in the bassolo) and playing a different groove in the Verse and Chorus although the chords are the same. It’s that subtle difference that really makes the difference. Listen for instance at bar 65 where the G note (chord) is played on the second eight of the fourth count and not on the first note of the next bar. I want to thank Jean-Luc from France for mentioning this to me! Bass: Paul S. Denman Album: Diamond Life (1984) Composer: Sade Adu; Ray St. John I play this song on a Dean ‘Edge’ bass with EMG pickups and roundwound strings. This video is for educational purpose.
