Making a Chair Part 2 of 2. Side and Arm Chair Building Process by Doucette and Wolfe Furniture Makers. We made a set of 8 chairs, 2 Arm and 6 side chairs. These chairs are made of solid mahogany, with carved and shaped posts and back splats with a shell carved Crest Rail. Part 2 shows carving the ball and claw feet, the rail mortise and tenon joinery with through wedged tenons and making the arms on the 2 Arm Chairs. These chairs are based on an original chair by Eliphalet Chapin of Connecticut. We measured an original example at Yale University Art Gallery. The mahogany for these chairs is from Irion Lumber
