Welcome to another episode of Reason Explained. Today we are going to work on the backing track to one of my other videos that walkthrough the components of the SSL mixer in Reason 6. If you haven&checked it out yet its a great way to familiarize yourself with the Mixer in Reason 6. In this video we will use Redrum for the beat, Kong for sampling and then some basic Eq and compression as well as high and low pass filters. So lets begin: 1st lets create a combinator to keep everything nice and clean. Lets name the mix channel Drums and lets name the combinator channel drums as well house keeping is very important. Inside the combinator lets create a 6:2 Mixer, click on the mixer and create a Redrum. To save time I have previously saved this kit. But these are all from the factory sound bank in reason. The kick sample is from the Nextstep kit and the high hat is also from the nextstep kit. For the snare I am using the SD7 Rare and the clap is from the boom kit. Last I am using the CYM3 1Jazz for my crash. First lets change the steps to 32 here. Select the Kick Drum and place the hit on 1 for the 1st 16 steps. Flick the edit steps switch to edit steps 17-32 and add a hit on the 1, 11 and 14. Next select your high hat and light up the odd numbers. Flick your edit steps switch again and do the same thing for your 1st set of steps. Next Ill change the dynamic to soft and light up 14 and 16 of both steps. Then change edit steps and do the same thing here as well.
