The FLIR C5 and C3-X are the latest pocket thermal cameras from FLIR. Both cameras have many of the same features, but there are a few differences between the two. Starting off with the similarities, both cameras have powerful FLIR MSX image blending technology. This is a proprietary FLIR technology that offers incredible image clarity compared to the opacity-based image blending you get from competitors. Both cameras also have a 5 megapixel digital camera, 8.7Hz frame rate, fixed focus, 70mK sensitivity, 4-hour battery life, and a 3.5-inch touchscreen. Additionally, both cameras offer WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity for fast and easy image transfer to a computer or mobile device. Another powerful feature that both cameras share is connectivity to the FLIR Ignite Cloud. With this feature enabled, all your IR images are automatically backed up to the cloud after capture. This also makes it easy to download and analyze images for your reports. As for the differences, the biggest one is resolution. The FLIR C5 wins here with 160x120 resolution compared to 128x96 resolution on the C3-X. In practice, we found that this does provide a noticeable boost in image detail on the C5, especially when not using MSX. The C5 also includes other features like digital zoom, 1-Touch Level/Span, non-radiometric IR video streaming, and annotation prompts. These are all absent on the C3-X.
