Recently I bought an Alienware M14x laptop with the newest Intel 3rd generation Ivy Bridge mobile processor. The variation I got was the lowest-tier mobile Ivy Bridge, the i7-3610QM, which runs at up to 3.3Ghz and has 4 cores. This laptop comes stock with 6GB ram (4GBx2GB) and an nVidia GeForce GT 650M GPU. I opted to not upgrade the LCD, which runs natively at 768x1366 (720p), but did upgrade the hard drive to a 32GB cache SSD and the wireless technology to Intel Advanced-N WiFi Link 6250, which includes support for WiFi, WiMax, and Bluetooth. The WiMax is like cellular 4G and requires a subscription to one of the major carriers to be used. This video shows the new hotness going up against my trusty, but old-and-busted desktop PC which has an AMD Phenom II 1100T, moderately overclocked to 3.8Ghz. This is still the best AMD desktop processor on the market, despite their recent debut of their new "Bulldozer" and "Trinity" line of processors. This desktop PC also has 16GB DDR3 ram and a GeForce GTX470 GPU. In this face off, the Alienware laptop bested the AMD Desktop by a large margin, rendering these two textures in 134 seconds. The desktop took 535 seconds and it is unlikely I could decrease that time through any rational means of further overclocking as this AMD processor has proven very unstable past 3.9Ghz.
