Apart from having one of the finest beach of East Coast and of course the seat of Lord Jagannath, Puri has another very interesting thing on offer. If you are wondering what would it be, let me tell you it&the Khaja that us Bengalis die for. There are no dearth of shops selling Khaja at Puri, in fact there are thousands, but not all of them are good. So where do you go for some great Khaja? There are three shops which are in forefronts on the popularity scale, Ganguram, Kakatua and Nrusingha. Kakatua&quality has detoriarated in recent times. Even the most ardent fan of Kakatua&khaja are shifting their loyalty elsewhere. Ganguram and Nrusingha are good but there is a problem. There are multiple fakes for both the brands and the number is mind boggling and confusing at the same time. This time I was told that the Old Nrusingha sweets near the Jagannath temple sells one of the best khajas in Puri. I decided to try it out. The shop had shifted from its original place to a new place at Balu Shahi which is also close to the Temple. One of the landmark is Padmini lodge, and the shop is located on the ground floor of the same building. They sell four different qualities of khaja, ranging from Rs.120/- a kg to Rs.400/ a kg and that&fried in pure ghee. The taste was exellent, khajas were crisp and the sweetness was mild and there was a distinct flavour of fine quality ghee. Highly recommended if you are in Puri and searching for some good Khaja.
