The Deer&Cry by Arvo Pärt Conducted by Nelson Kwei Singapore Choral Artists Gala Concert - Our Voices, Our Songs 19th February 2023 SOTA Concert Hall The Deer’s Cry is a sacred motet set to text from a traditional Irish lorica for a four-part choir a cappella which was allegedly written by Saint Patrick as he was being ambushed by his enemies but saved when their enemies only saw them in the woods as a mother deer with calves. Through the music, it hopes to convey the fear and apprehension of incoming death, but also trust in the deliverance from God.
