Phillip Sear plays the 12th piece from the 1994 Votkinsk Album by the Russian composer Igor Parfionov (1928- 2018). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Igor Parfyonov (or Parfionov, 1928- 2018) was a Russian composer who specialized in educational music, following a religious experience inspired by an icon he had viewed at the age of 36. This piece refers to Tchaikovsky&memories of his mother, and evokes the composer&style. It is headed by a quotation from a memoir by Tchaikovsky&brother, Modest: "PI Tchaikovsky treated his mother always with tenderness. Alexandra Andreevna played well on the piano and sang romances by Russian composers. Pyotr Ilyich remembered her singing for the rest of his life." Votkinsk is the town where Tchaikovsky spent his early childhood.
