One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. Before these historical words were uttered, many sacrifices had to be made both in terms of money and in human life. Before the careful moon landing of Apollo 11 and the close call aboard Apollo 13, there was the failed attempt of Apollo 1, which never managed to take off due to a fire that broke out in the capsule on the launch rehearsal day. The flames suffocated and killed all three crew members. In this video, I tell the story of Apollo 1, the NASA spacecraft that went up in flames and ended catastrophically before it even left the ground. I examine why it happened and what the aftermath was. If you enjoy space or engineering videos, subscribe to 26 Dimensions!
