Minuet Francesco Barsanti (1690-1775) was born in Tuscany but was most famous for being Handel&principal oboist at the Haymarket. He also played flute and recorder, which was common at the time. This sonata is a bit of a departure from the normal form of slow-fast-slow-fast in that instead of the last fast movement there are two dances: a gavotte with variations, and a minuet.
