Casio LD 80 Electronic Drum Kit : A Demonstration

The Casio LD 80 is a very fun electronic drum set. I bought mine second hand about 12 years ago. It is a lot of fun to use, even if you have never had a drum lesson. In this video, I give a demonstration of 3 different drum kits that are in the LD 80. On one hand, this digital drum machine has some very good sounds in multiple styles. If you are looking for rock, techno, latin, ethnic, or many other styles of rhythm sounds, you will find them in the Casio LD 80. On the other hand, I find that Casio sounds can be very hit or miss. You can have sounds that are very cool and highly usable. But you can also have sounds that are very cheesy and weak. Of course, if you want pro quality sounds, this probably isn&the drum kit for you. The great thing is, this machine had MIDI in and out. So, you can connect it to a synthesizer, workstation or sound module that has much better drum sounds. Then you can play those sounds from the LD 80. That is one advantage of this device. The pads on this thing are touch sensitive. Unfortunately you cannot turn that off. You also cannot customize your own drum sets. There are some preset rhythms, basslines and percussion patterns that you can play along with. There is also a record function, and the pads light up to give you a teaching feature.
