The Matrix Element I sound signature is very detailed , airy and layered. There are no peaks or dips any part of the frequency response. Very clean and neutral sounding. Headphone amp section has plenty of power and sounds good with either planar or dynamic driver headphones. Using the Element I with a better power supply will further enhance the sound quality. The best external linear power supply available is the Sbooster Mk2. The one we used in the review was a fancy switching power supply from ifi audio, that happens to be better than the stock wall wart.
