windows 10 upgrade error fix - confirmed working on an old dell and hp laptop of mine full error is We couldn't install windows 10 0x800704B8 -0x3001A The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during BEGIN_FIRST_BOOT operation 3 common reasons for this error 1. The system reserved partition is too small , increase to atleast 500MB 2. Delete any reg keys the installer is unable to delete itself 3. use an older windows .ISO file that is compatible with your hardware bonus - use a CSM boot , delete any dodgy user profiles that may be causing issues. e.g I had a case were a user SSID for a local admin was causing the setup to error out. possibly an obvious fix and more worthy of a forum post but I hope it helps someone as it can be frustrating ,happy to help you out if your getting a different error. good luck ,peace
