Shoulder Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs) - AKA Glenohumeral CARs CARs are a very potent training stimulus and they&something we do our best to perform every single day. They are so important that they are the starting point for every patient we see in our office and they are included in all of our training clients&warm-ups. Why perform CARs? 1. To maintain your joints&ranges of motion. If you don&use it, you lose it. Our bodies are highly adaptable and if you don&use certain ranges of motion, you will slowly lose them. We don&lose mobility just "because of age." Rather, we lose mobility because we don&continually express all of our joints&full ranges of motion as we age. 2. To improve your joints&ranges of motion. The better you become at CARs, the harder you can make them. By creating a lot of internal muscular tension at your joints&end ranges of motion, you can actively work to slowly expand your ranges of motion. 3. To improve your motor control (AKA body control). Having better awareness (proprioception) and control of your individual joints helps you learn how to eliminate other body parts and joints from compensating. 4. For joint health and longevity. Our joints have poor blood supply and rely on movement to bring nutrients into the joint. CARs are also a potent anti-inflammatory. Look at CARs the same as you look at brushing and flossing your teeth: important for keeping everything healthy. 5. For joint screening and self-assessing. Going through CARs...
