The famous aria "Il Balen del suo sorriso" from Verdi&opera "Il Trovatore," sung by lyric baritone Garfield Swift (1908-1982). A native of New York City, Swift performed for about 40 years in the United States and Europe beginning in the early 1930s. He was also a teacher and disciple of the renowned voice coach Estelle Liebling. Miss Liebling worked with many top singers from The Met including the late Beverly Sills. During the mid 1940&the young Beverly Sills and Swift performed together as part of "The Liebling Singers," a group of Liebling students who traveled widely giving musical performances.
