If you are anything like me, you likely haven’t given flanger a fair shake. It’s played an unjust second fiddle to chorus since time immemorial. Enter the Walrus Polychrome; an analog flanger that aims to shake things up a bit. The controls here are largely familiar to anyone who has played a Walrus modulation pedal or, honestly, other flangers on the market before. HOWEVER. If I had to point to a single unique selling point here, I would point enthusiastically at the Random LFO waveform. If you like a traditional flanger, you’ll like this. But if you’re unsure that you can find a use for flange, or that the steady “wow” isn’t for you, I implore you to give that random LFO a listen. It breathes new life into an under appreciated effect.
